Last week, as part of Experimental Practices, an elective term 4 course taught by Dougal Muir, there was a fun session of light painting photography. I helped to guide the shooting after sharing some tips on the technical requirements, camera settings, and providing some sources of inspiration. We made use of a camera remote, a tripod, slow shutter speeds, gels, and various LED lights. Check out the following light painting results by Digital Design Class 35!
Congratulations to the winning teams from last week’s Digital Design SLAM. These intense and fun collaborative design challenges take place three times per year. They provide great opportunities for students to test their design skills and to build their networks as teams are formed from all three intakes. Slams also allow students to potentially gain another portfolio piece in a short time frame. Deliverables include both motion and interactive design elements. The students explored the use of projection mapping as the main component for this event. Here are the winning teams that captured the prizes for the Critics’ Choice and the People’s Choice categories, respectively.
Critics’ Choice winners:
Team Graph Editors (from left: Adel, Niketan, Denita, Kevin, Crystal)
People’s Choice winners:
Team Queue Jumpers (from left: Rena, Brandon, Dakoda, Suzy, Andre)
The accolades for Ainara Sáinz Gutierrez continue to pour in. Her graduate project, FRAME, was named the winner of the Web & Mobile category yesterday by a judging panel of The Rookies, an international competition for young designers, creators, innovators, and artists. Judging criteria were based on Overall Impression, Creative Skills, Technical Skills, Range of Skills, Complexity, Presentation, and Industry Employability. Congratulations also to Ignacio Flórez and David Rivera for being selected as finalists in the Motion Graphics and the Web & Mobile categories respectively. 479 schools from around the world (77 countries) were also ranked, and Vancouver Film School was named the School of the Year in the Web & Mobile category and the Runner-Up for Motion Graphics.
