Summer Grad Show Sizzles

The Digital Design program at VFS opened it’s doors to industry on Wednesday August 17th for Appetizers: Delicious Bites of Digital Design. Keynote speaker, Ryan Honey from Buck (LA), started the event by walking us through a series of incredibly creative pieces done in their studio. The work was both amusing and inspiring. The triumph of the summer grad show though, belonged to the sixteen graduates themselves. VanUE: Intranet Transformation

VFS Digital Design is proud to once again be the venue sponsor for the speaker series put on by VanUE (the Vancouver User Experience Group). At the September offering, Heather Harmse, the Employee Portal Manager for Vancity, will explore how Canada’s largest credit union’s intranet was transformed into a dynamic, silo-busting and employee-centric online environment. You’ll be shown real-world examples of how they leveraged internal social tools and tackled adoption by implementing tactics that ensured staff acceptance and active participation.

You must register here to attend the event. There is a small fee of $10 to attend, but all proceeds are being applied to purchasing appetizers for the must-attend networking social immediately following the presentation.

Sounds like a perfect event to learn some new tricks, catch up with peers and meet some potential new collaborators.

Design Work Makes an Impact

Three times a year students, staff, and industry guests gather to celebrate the incredible work being done throughout the various programs at the school. Having your work selected as a nominee for the VFS Impact Awards is an incredible distinction. For the 2011 Fall VFS ‘Circus’ Impact Awards several Digital Design projects have been nominated.

These include Luis Francisco’s interactive children’s book for the iPad called ‘Suuz’ (Suuz Case Study video) in the category of Zero to Sixty and ‘Brainstreams BRAINFO‘ a complete marketing campaign bringing awareness to the issues surrounding brain injuries created by the team of Gary Sylvester, Matthew Dale, Erman Dumlu, Ryan Hoback & Leon Wang in the category of Public Enlightenment. Stuart Ward’s experimental projection mapping project from midway through the program called ‘Kill your Television’ received a deserving nod in the category of More Than The Sum of Its Parts and the team of Julian Ablaza, Amie Bennett and Ronald Dario picked up a nomination for Mission Impossible for their unprecedented thirteen minute long documentary on Transhumanism.
