Visit Tour: Scarab
(Guest post by Jessica Gaffney, DD44)
Scarab Digital is a content creation and post-production service company that specializes in Playback, Motion Graphics and UI Design.
The owner, Danny Ho, welcomed DD44 first thing in the morning with donuts and a big smile. The biggest takeaway from the presentation would be to “do what others can not.” When Danny started off, he offered extra services that made him stand out from the competition. With a previous love for computers and film, it was easy for him to take on the extra workload. He then emphasized that we should pursue what we enjoy, “if you don’t like designing brochures – don’t do brochures!” Ever since, Scarab has been working with big Hollywood productions like the X Files, Supergirl and Flash.
After the presentation, we went into the studio to speak with the creatives. They explained the process from beginning to end; from getting the script, pitching an idea, executing the design, to final delivery. It was amazing to see how they brought a concept to life (on their fancy huge computer screens) and then see their final product on the big screen.
Even though we only got to see a glimpse of what their workflow was like, it was a huge learning opportunity that opened our minds to countless possibilities.
Congratulations to VFS Digital Design grad, Hasan Habib, who is proud to announce that his Graduate Project (as well as the Motion Graphic piece) has been used by Husaini Blood Bank for their new Identity!
Hasan told us all about his Creative Process for the project:
“For my Graduation Project, I decided to create a 360 campaign for Husaini Blood Bank, one of the largest blood banks in Pakistan. I pursued this project because I believe that Husaini Blood Bank has an opportunity to be a more powerful brand through a new identity.”
“Working for a real client for my Graduation Project, was a great experience. It allowed me to perform as if I were already working in the industry. I loved the hands-on experience of interacting with the client, conducting surveys and interviews, performing market research, and several swot analyses. I put this campaign together with the help and direction of my mentor Ben Garfinkel, without whom the project would not have reached its maximum potential.”
