Draw By Night #18 – The Uncollectables

This theme comes, once again, from our loving group of DBN followers. During our 18th drawing party, we will pay tribute to our childhood toys that have been lost or ran away. These free spirited misfit toys will be remembered in an evening of collaborative drawing. Before and during the event, we will be making draws for participants to win Munny dolls to draw on. There will be snacks and, as always, this event is free & open to the public! Come armed with your favorite drawing utensil or just bring yourself and use our stuff! We just want you there!

What happens when you’re the mastermind behind Draw By Night and you take some time off to get married? Well, you come back to find your desk papered DBN style to celebrate your nuptials! Thank you to all the students and faculty for sharing your well wishes through illustration. Congratulations again, Myron!

Digital Design to Welcome Ryan Honey as an Artist in Residence!

We’re so pleased to welcome Ryan Honey as an Artist in Residence! Ryan is a Digital Design graduate and Principal/Creative Director of Buck, an LA and NY-based motion graphics agency working in the advertising, broadcast, retail, film, and entertainment industries.

Ryan will be visiting with us from August 13th to the 15th. During his time here, Ryan will be engaging with students in many ways. On Monday, Ryan will sit in on final presentations in both our Motion 2 and Motion 4 courses to respectively provide students with feedback on their talking head and title sequence projects. That evening, he’ll speak about his award-winning projects at our Motion Showcase. Be it live action, CG animation, special effects, cel, stop motion, or a combination of techniques, Ryan’s work pushes the boundaries in commercial motion graphics. He will ‘pull back the curtain’ to reveal his process and talk about some of the key decisions and techniques — from concept to delivery — that go into producing work that is visceral, innovative and diverse.

On Tuesday, Ryan will be joining the Portfolio Preparation course to review the portfolios of our upcoming graduates. He’ll provide insight and guidance on how to package projects for interviewing purposes.

And on Wednesday, Ryan will be conducting a Motion Workshop in which students can show him projects in any state of completion and get conceptual, aesthetic and technical guidance. That evening, we’re very proud to announce that Ryan will be the keynote speaker at Appetizers.

And in the off chance you’ve been living in a cave and haven’t heard about Ryan, well he’s one of the best motion graphic artists out there. His storied career has included a four-year role as the Creative Director at Heavy, Inc. and almost nine years at the helm of Buck, where he creates commercials, network packages/promos and experiential motion graphics for Fortune 500 clients, including Burger King, Coke, Google, Honda, the NBA, Nickelodeon, Nike, Old Navy, Sherwin Williams, Toyota, and Umbro, just to name a few.

We look forward to seeing you soon, Ryan!
