A press release was sent out last Monday (February 25, 2013) from Storypanda, announcing a partnership with VFS. As anyone who attended the recent Digital Design Talks Childish Charms would know, there is a long standing association between the program and the interactive storytelling company by way of StoryPanda’s Art Director and Digital Design grad Simon Vieira. Now we can add two more Digital Design grads to their team: Amrit Pal Singh and Hasan Habib. The two graduates from Digital Design’s 21st class have worked together on producing two books for Storypanda that reimagine classic tales. The first of these, Wallers Wild West has just been released for the iPad and is available at the App Store.
On Wednesday, January 30, 2013 VFS Digital Design presented another in its series of talks. Digital Design Talks: Childish Charms featured two art directors involved in the development of Children’s Literature, but from slightly different aspects of this changing industry.
Simon Vieira is a Digital Design grad and Art Director for StoryPanda, who produce Collaborative Kids Stories in the digital domain, using the iPad as their medium. And Sara Gillingham is an award-winning art director and designer, formally the Design Director for Chronicle Books, a significant player in the Children’s Books print industry, and she now also developes her own books and gifts.
VFS Digital Design grad, Simon Vieira is now Art Director at a new Start-Up called Storypanda, which just launched to a bit of fanfare. Part of 500 Startups, Storypanda develops storytelling for families using a variety of platforms: mobile, web, TV/film, games, toys, and educational. The kids books are structured for interactive collaboration, allowing children to engage in the creation of the story, which they may then share with their family and friends.
Simon Vieira did some great work while here at VFS. His piece Diligo was featured by the design blog Lovely Package. Oomph did a post about it back in 2010. We wish him best of luck with his job at Storypanda!
The Storypanda app for the iPad is now available – check it out!
