In other news I’ve been struggling with Unity lighting. Unfortunately, I was not in the art stream and missed out on the amazing lighting class, apart from a few sessions I sat in on. Therefore, I am trying to learn as I go. I have a relative amount of experience creating decent lighting in UDK but Unity is very different, so it’s a bit of an adjustment.
This is getting weirder now. Ever since I took down my lucky charm (a picture of some garlic I printed), our workstations have gone from odd to crazy. The light at our work station is flashing and giving us all seizures.
Yes, it’s only going on in our space, and No, it’s not an indication that the light bulb needs changing. It’s appropriately a haunting!
Production is trudging along. We just passed Milestone 1 and have all the stuff in we want for that. So, thus far, we are feeling very good about the project.

Sooo much has happened in the last couple of months. Our class has moved down to the second floor and we are now in the Prrrrroduction phase of the year. This essentially means that we are making a game in a couple of months to be shown to the industry at the program’s Pitch and Play event. Read More
Week 2 of term 3 is picking up a little bit now. The Level Design stream has a pretty heavy work load, but it’s all been very very fun. Currently, we are finishing up a Capture the Flag map in UDK and a decorating assignment in Environmental Level Design.
The due date for the Capture the Flag map is tomorrow, so I’ll try to get some screen shots up as soon as me and my team mate finish what we’ve been doing. The level so far, I don’t mind saying, is siiiiick. We’ll see how it turns out in the end. Read More
The VFS Game Design Summer Intensive covered a lot of ground over days two and three, delving into Level Design, Storytelling/Interactive Narrative and Game Art.
Day 2 introduced the students to the core of game design: constructing the environment and scripting the events of the play. Game Design Instructor and 3D Environment Artist, Victor Kam, introduced students to the Unreal Development Kit (UDK), which uses the Unreal Engine (a game engine developed by Epic Games, first used in the 1998 first-person shooter game Unreal). UDK is a free download available to the general public (for non-commercial games, although, games built using the free kit can be sold according to certain relatively minor stipulations outlined in Unreal Technology’s Licensing Terms).
