We caught up recently with VFS Digital Design grad, Mark Miller, and got some cool news about his company Dark Igloo (co-founded with Dave Franzese): They were selected as part of this years’ Art Director’s Club Young Guns Class. It’s a select group of 34 people chosen from around the world (30 yrs or younger).
To celebrate, Dark Igloo has put together an online retrospective of their work from the last four years, which you can check out here. They’ve done a lot of great work, and its range is impressive, to say the least. We’ve featured some of that work on OOMPH!, but there is a lot more to see in their portfolio section.
Speaking with Mark about what this recognition means to him and his business partner Dave, he said, “Being a part of the class of ADC Young Guns X is an honor for several reasons: As a member you get to meet past & present Young Guns. For instance, they arranged for Dave & I to have a conversation with the amazing photographer Bela Borsodi. The 30+ interviews were then combined with work samples from the group and laid out beautifully in a limited edition annual (designed by Dress Code NYC) which has a laser-cut cement cover! The award holds significance in our industry & the NYC market. Dave & I are so stoked to converse, & hopefully collaborate, with this international group of like-minded and incredibly talented creatives.”
Just to give you an idea of the range of their work, here are a couple of highlight reels to watch: The first one is from The Story of Light (a M ss ng P eces Production), featuring “miniature sets depicting key moments in the history of light.”
And the second example is Sans Crap, (“A commercial for Crap, the last thing you’d find in a meal at The Pump Energy Food [Dig Inn Seasonal Market]. The video was so crappy that we were asked to rebrand the whole restaurant.”)
They also happen to have a fantastic contact page. Check it out and see for yourself.
Congratulations to Mark, Dave and the rest of the fine Dark Igloo crew!
