You say yes, and I say no. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to finding inspiration, because inspiration comes from within. The dictionary definition of inspiration is “The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something”. That being said, there is no way to force inspiration upon somebody. It is caused by a connection between the person and what they are sensing.
It’s like love at first sight, only in this case, you are not falling in love with the person, but with something they have done or said. In both senses, it gives you a feeling deep down in your gut, which lets you know that what you just experienced was amazing, and will stay with you for a long time. I have seen people inspired by the pattern of a tie worn by a stranger walking down the street, or a line from a song you listened to while feeling a little blue.
My most recent inspiration came from Facebook. While scrolling through the newsfeed quickly because I had already read most of what was on there, I passed what i thought looked like two girls, one older and one younger, wearing scary clown makeup. Turns out, it was actually just them making funny faces for the camera in a poorly lit room. After seeing this I said to myself, I can take something from this. I took that false vision, and turned it into a short story that I am proud of, as it is not my typical style.
In the end the only thing that matters is that you found something that made you feel a little better inside and you were able to take something from that to make your own, no matter where it came from.
